The American College of Pediatricians joined by Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, American Association of Christian Counselors, Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, Catholic Medical Association, Christian Medical & Dental Associations filed a brief in the United States Supreme Court in support of a Tennessee statute prohibiting the use of puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgical procedures on minors for “gender transition” purposes. Such interventions do not benefit children but actually harm those struggling with gender incongruence or dysphoria. Tennessee’s prohibition on such interventions is based on sound, evidence-based science and should be upheld. Children who struggle with gender issues should be property treated to address what is often underlying mental health issues and not put on a path of irreversible, life-altering hormonal and surgical procedures that do nothing to address the underlying mental health concerns that brought about the dysphoria in the first place.
